 Which gun should I buy?

The most popular type of gun is the Automatic Electric Gun (AEG). AEG's are battery powered guns that typically replicate rifles and machine guns, like the AK47 or MP5. These are the most efficient airsoft guns because the batteries are rechargeable, the only non-renewable factor of use with AEGs are the BBs. There are numerous advantages to having an AEG.

What kind of BB's should I use with my gun?

This can depend on the quality of the gun you are using.  Always use high quality, seemless, smooth BB's with expensive Airsoft guns and you will have fewer problems with jamming.  They will also be more accurate and can travel farther ditances.  Cheaper BB's are sometimes manufactured from halves so you can see and sometimes feel a seem around the BB.  These can be used with cheaper Airsoft guns buy expect them to cause more jams and be less accurate.  At Airsoft Gun Supply all of our BB's are high quality ammunition so rest assured your gun will operate at it's maximum potential. Using high quality BBs is crucial to the health of your gun, don't risk hundreds of dollars in repairs over a fifteen dollar bag of BBs. Also, the weight of the BB is not relevant to it's quality.

Tell me about the batteries for these guns.

Airsoft gun batteries are made from multiple little batteries, referred to as 'cells'. Each cell has a voltage and milliampere number associated with it, which is also how each battery is classified. For example, an 8.4v 1700mAh battery has 8.4 volts and 1700 milliampere hours. The volts pertains to your guns rate of fire, the higher the volts the higher the rate of fire. The milliampere hours is related to the longevity of the battery, the higher the milliamere hours the longer you can play on a single charge.

Charging the battery for your Airsoft Gun

Proper charging instructions for a standard wall charger.  Smart Chargers will be different so consult it's instructions.

  1. Find your battery’s voltage and mah number.
  2. Find your charger’s voltage and mah out-put.
  3. Divide the battery’s mah by the charger’s mah.
  4. Multiply that quotient by 1.4.

The answer to that equation is the number of hours that battery needs to be charged on that charger. For Nickel-Cadmium batteries: always discharge your battery with a discharger before recharging to maintain maximum battery life.

Be sure not to overcharge your battery or you will drastically reduce the life of the battery.

What is the difference between Green Gas, Propane and CO2?

The types of gasses available for airsoft are classified by their psi, or power. The most common forms of gas and their recommended use are as follows:

  • Green Gas-This is the most popular form of gas. Green Gas basically is Propane with a silicone additive for lubrication of the gun.  Most guns can use green gas without any problems. This gas can yield a velocity between 300-350 FPS if your gun is rated accordingly.
  • Propane-Propane is exactly the same thing as green gas, except propane gas is not lubricated with silicone. In order to use propane in your gas gun you must first lubricate the gas with silicone spray to avoid damage to your gun. It is much less expensive and works just as well as Green Gas.  All you need is a Green Gas Adapter for filling your gun.
  • CO2-CO2 can only be used in guns that have been specially designed for it. Depending on the gun, CO2 can yield a velocity close to or over 400 FPS. CO2 is so strong that even guns that are specifically designed for it are susceptible to abnormally high wear and breakage.

Airsoft Guns - Laws and Regulations

The risks and consequences of Airsoft gun use have not gone unnoticed by the law. Airsoft is considered illegal in various countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, and some countries like Canada prohibit the importation of "replica" Airsoft guns. However, federal importation laws in the United States simply require that all Airsoft guns transported within or imported into the country have barrels with a minimum 6mm wide blaze orange tip, so as to avoid confusion with real firearms. Most retailers of Airsoft guns have disclaimers stating that their Airsoft guns are sold with an orange tip, and that it is illegal to remove the orange tip.

Furthermore, individuals in the U.S. must be 18 years of age or older to purchase an Airsoft gun. On the other hand, Airsoft guns are not classified as firearms and are legal for use by all ages under federal law. However, some municipalities and states place restrictions on Airsoft guns. New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco, and parts of Michigan outlaw Airsoft guns entirely.

Why the Orange Tip?

The required bright 6mm orange tip found on all airsoft guns is required by US law and regulated by local state, county, city ordinances. You should talk to you state, county, and local law enforcement departments to gain greater detail.

What Does FPS mean?

FPS stands for Feet Per Second. This measures the velocity of the B.B. when it leaves the barrel or how fast the B.B. will be traveling.  Similar to MPH (Miles Per Hour) when driving a car.

What is Fully Automatic?

Fully Automatic means when the trigger is pulled the gun will fire continuously until the trigger is released.

What is Semi-Automatic?

Semi-Automatic means the gun will fire once with each pull of the trigger.

What is Blow Back?

Blow Back is a realistic feature that means the slide of the gun will recoil or slide back and forth with each shot fired; similar to an authentic firearm.

What is Non Blow Back?

Non Blow Back means that the gun will fire with no recoiling of the slide.

What is Hop Up?

A Hop-Up system adds an upwards spin on the B.B. as the propulsion pushes it down barrel which then reduces the affects of gravity. Due to this gravity reduction the flight time and range of the BB will increase and be more accurate.
